Hardcore Punk, Broken Bones and Capitalist Casualties at the Agnostic Front of Punk Rock

Finally is the time for me to write about Hardcore Punk, one of my favorite genres. Hardcore Punk is an excellent genre started in the U.S.A. by amazing people that made fantastic music. Some of the spectacular inspirations for Hardcore were The Buzzcocks, The Stooges, MC5 and Crass.

The Three Big Bands of Hardcore:

Some people, including me, would say that there is three Hardcore Punk bands that are the biggest. Those are Black Flag, Bad Brains and Minor Threat. Of those Black Flag is arguably the most influential one. Their commitment to the music and the underground scene, made them the godfathers of DIY music, and have also made them one of the undergrounds most legendary bands. During their career, Black Flag had four different vocalists. Keith Morris, Ron Reyes, Dez Cadena and Henry Rollins. My personal favorite is Rollins. Because of the commanding roar in his performances, and because he was a part of the band during their experimental and groundbreaking later days.

Another groundbreaking band is Bad Brains. Bad Brains was an amazing band that managed to include more then one genre into their music, not unlike Black Flag. Originally starting as a fusion band that later decided to play punk (And also apparently coin the term "mosh"). They mostly went from Hardcore to Reggae, and had some great songs that included both genres. People might accuse Bad Brains for straying too far from Hardcore on I Against I, but they have to credit that album for its amazing music, Hardcore or not.

The third and most conservative Hardcore band of the three great ones is Minor Threat. A truly amazing band that have made some few, but timeless, Hardcore songs. Ian MacKayes voice is one of the most recognizable ones in Punk, and his political and social lyrics have  made them even more legendary. Although Minor Threat wasn't as experimental and groundbreaking as Bad Brains or Black Flag, their ability to create classic and essential Hardcore songs has made them just as legendary. And even if they are to blame for the often terrible Straight Edge scene, i will always love them.

The Best Growlers, a list by Tarleif.

In all history of music the element that has set Death Metal apart from other types of Metal is the growl. Comforting and advicefull, the Extreme Metal vocals have always been cool. And it is therefore i have decided to post my favorite Growlers

5. Juan Brujo (Brujeria)

Of all Deathgrind bands Brujeria has some of the coolest vocals. Their lyrics about such important matters as sex, narcotics, satanism and the lack of dead white people, has always touched me deep inside, but it is those magnificent vocals that makes it good. Juan Brujo's delivery is amazingly harsh and Mexican at the same time, something that other bands doesn't manage to do. Personally i think that Cannibal Corpse and most other Death Metal bands would be highly improved with Brujo or any other Mexican on vocals.

4. Chuck Schuldiner (Death)

When it comes to being different in your style of growling, few people manage to be as different as Chuck. While most would try to go lower and lower in sound, he would just go upper and upper. This is the thing that made him and his band different, and it is also one of the thousand reasons to love Death.

 3. Barney Greenway (Napalm Death)

In my meaning the best vocalist Napalm Death ever have had. Greenway's cool and fantastic growl is one of the most recognizable in Death Metal today. I have not heard anyone that have managed to sound as British and ferocious as this man. Not only does his vocals improve Napalm's songs perfectly, but they also fit greatly for covers. Short hair or long hair, Greenway has always been awesome.

2. Tsukasa Harakawa (Hellchild)

Easily the most unknown vocalist on this list, but his place is truly deserved. He is another growler that really separates himself from the standard Death Metal sound, and it is also therefore i really adore his style. Hellchild is probably my favorite Death Metal band, largely due to Harakawa's amazing vocals. I urge most people to listen to Hellchild, an underrated and extremely amazing band with a great vocalist.

1. Corporate Death/Nosferatu (Macabre)

Since Wikipedia lists both of them as vocalists, i have to give it a tie. Because when it comes to Death Metal, no band has the similar reach of spectacularity as Macabre. They can sing good in several styles, not just growling. Just like Brujeria, Macabre has some awesome lyrics. Their choice of themes is not drug trade and Mexicanity though, but serial killers. People like Manson, Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer are all normal characters in their wicked stories.

I fall in ave for October Falls

Finland. 2001. The «October Falls» was an introduction to all Neofolk and Dark folk for my own music experience. October Falls is often categorized as a band within these genres, but also with a obvious Black Metal side. They have the extraordinary proportion to blow your mind within seconds, when those first tones are playing through your darkest time in the day.

The distinctness between this band and lots of others in the same genre is due to their mixture between different genres and their exclusive artistic style. The vocals in their music and their albums are similar, but still a lot different from others in the same style of music.

Yeah, that’s about it. I especially recommend October Fall’s newest album (30. April 2010) A Collapse of Faith. Some good shit right there.

"A Collapse of Faith. Three Parts. 41 minutes and 59 freakin' seconds".

Liklukt: The Smell of a Dead Death Metal Band

Liklukt is in my meaning a great and underrated Death Metal band. They have only released some few demos, and it does seem like they have called it a day, since their website has not been updated since 2007. But has i have said, they are/were great. Overall their style can be described as Brutal Death Metal with some Black Metal touches.

This was their demo from 2005, Sons of Svalbard. In my meaning not as great as their future releases, but still pretty great. It includes samples from a Norwegian movie, i do believe that it is Orions Belte. A good release, but not anything amazing.

This is in my meaning their best release. Trapped on The Seabed creates an aura of amazing Death Metal. If Chuck Norris had been an album, this would have been it. It Starts with a great first track called Leviathan of The Deep, a song that would inspire most people to kill something around them that isn't cool at all. The rest of the songs are all great, but none of them manage to create the superiority that LoTD has and creates.

Last came their demo Into The Deep, a good release, just not as good as the previous one.

You can download these demos at their website.

Progression of Stuff: Cynic

Cynic is an awesome band. Their amazing type of Progressive Metal have made them one of my favorite bands, it is therefore i have decided to write a little bit about them and their amazing music.

The band first started as a Technical Thrash Metal band, but luckily later moved into a much more Death Metal dominant territory. It was during this time that band leader Paul Masvidal and drummer Sean Reinert contributed to the amazing Death album Human.

In 1993 Cynic's first album and their finest work was released. It was called Focus, and it was the perfect blend of Death Metal, Progressive Rock and Jazz Fusion. People have since heard similar attempts at spectacularity, but nothing could match it, even with all of its amazing songcrafting, it was impossible to reach Cynic's level.

It took Cynic 15 years to release another collection of masterpieces. Even if it did not reach Focus's level of amazingness, it made a good attempt.

So to sum up this article:

Cynic is Awesome.

Hello, this is the start of a new era

Music is amazing and i love it. So here is an amazing song.
